In a SURPRISING move, Lucas Arts has revealed that it is, indeed, making a new, OFFICIAL Monkey Island offering (as well as an updated remake of the original game). See here: http://www.lucasarts.com/company/release/news20090601.html
As thrilled as I am as the next MI fan that we’re getting an OFFICIAL MI5 (though, episodic? I dunno…), this is admittedly a bit of a disappointment for me on a more personal level, as I was considering actually pitching my script to Lucas Arts to be made as a full-length official game, and with all the work I’ve put in thus far and everything, it has been turning out REALLY good (imho)… So right now I’m just sorta feeling like, “What should I do now?” I’m not sure (like any of us) what to quite think of The Tales of MI just yet… being out of Lucas Arts’ hands, being episodic, and being thrown together so quickly that nearly no one caught onto it until just now…? And are we gonna get more 3D/keyboard blah-ness like MI4, or what? I dunno, just lots racing around in my head right now.
I’d be HAPPY to keep on going with it for myself and anyone that’s interested, but I fear the outside interest will become slim-to-none at the outset of this new, official offering. I just had this hopeful thinking in my head about getting LA onto my script, getting it picked up, making some kinda professional headway in my life and such, you know? But now… Not so certain… Unless “Tales” turns out lame and bombs… Guess we just have to wait and see on that one, though. Meh… I dunno. What does anyone else think?
